Description

This Easy Cheese Danish recipe features buttery puff pastry filled with a sweet and tangy cream cheese mixture, topped with fresh berries and finished with a bright lemon glaze. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a delightful dessert treat.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Cheese Danish:
  • 1 lb puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk, room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon zest (from 1 lemon)
  • 1 1/2 cups berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)
  • Egg Wash:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • Lemon Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unfold puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut into rectangles (about 4×6 inches each).
  3. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, granulated sugar, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and lemon zest until smooth.
  4. Spread the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each puff pastry rectangle, leaving a border around the edges. Top with berries.
  5. Fold the edges over slightly and press gently to create a border. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make the egg wash. Brush over the pastry edges.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes, until puff pastry is golden brown and cheese filling is set.
  8. While pastries bake, prepare the lemon glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice until smooth.
  9. Allow Danish pastries to cool slightly, then drizzle with lemon glaze and serve.

Notes

  • Use cold puff pastry for best results and to ensure flakiness.
  • Mix berries according to preference, or use a single type for a simpler look.
  • Leftover Danish can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated briefly in the oven.
  • For a richer flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the cream cheese mixture.
