Description

Custard Oatmeal is a rich and creamy breakfast treat made with oats cooked in a smooth custard-like base. Itโ€™s sweet, comforting, and perfect for starting the day on a warm note. The velvety texture and subtle flavors of vanilla and cinnamon make this oatmeal a luxurious option for a cozy morning.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup sugar (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional toppings: fresh fruit, nuts, or maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the oats, milk, and salt. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  2. Once the mixture is simmering, reduce the heat to low and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring often, until the oats are tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  4. Slowly add the egg mixture to the oatmeal, stirring constantly to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
  5. Continue cooking on low heat for another 2-3 minutes, or until the oatmeal thickens and the custard has fully set.
  6. Remove from heat and serve warm with your choice of toppings, such as fresh berries, nuts, or a drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

  • For a creamier texture, you can use full-fat milk or add a splash of cream to the oatmeal.
  • If you prefer a sweeter oatmeal, you can adjust the sugar amount to taste or add a bit of honey or maple syrup.
  • This custard oatmeal can also be made ahead and reheated in the microwave for a quick breakfast option.
