Description
Croque Monsieur Puffs are a delicious twist on the classic French sandwich, combining flaky puff pastry with creamy cheese sauce, salty ham, and melted Gruyère. These golden bites are elegant yet easy, perfect for brunch, parties, or a cozy snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 320g ready-rolled puff-pastry sheet
- 175g cheese sauce (about half of a 350g tub)
- 1 x 200g pack French Torchon ham, cut into small pieces
- 100g Gruyère cheese, finely grated
- To serve:
- Finely chopped chives
- Freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Unroll the puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface and cut it into 12 equal squares or rectangles.
- In a bowl, mix the cheese sauce, chopped ham, and half of the grated Gruyère until well combined.
- Spoon a small amount of the mixture onto the center of each pastry square.
- Fold the pastry over the filling to form small parcels or triangles, then press the edges with a fork to seal.
- Place the puffs on the prepared baking tray, brush with a little beaten egg or milk if desired, and sprinkle the remaining Gruyère on top.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving warm, garnished with chopped chives and a crack of black pepper.
Notes
- These puffs are best served warm but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
- Try substituting the ham with cooked bacon or sautéed mushrooms for a vegetarian twist.
- They make a great appetizer or brunch side dish paired with a light salad.
