Units
Scale
- 3 pounds apples (about 8 large or 12 small), peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/4 cup honey, plus more to taste
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 1 small lemon, divided (juice and zest)
Instructions
- Peel, core, and roughly chop the apples. Add them to the crockpot.
- Add honey, cinnamon stick, pumpkin pie spice, and juice from half the lemon. Stir to coat the apples evenly.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the apples are soft and fragrant.
- Remove the cinnamon stick. Mash with a potato masher for chunky applesauce or blend with an immersion blender for smooth texture.
- Taste and adjust sweetness with more honey or lemon juice if needed.
- Let cool slightly, then serve warm or chill before storing in jars.
Notes
- Mix apple varieties for richer flavor—sweet and tart apples make the best applesauce.
- Leave the lid slightly open during the last 30 minutes to thicken the sauce.
- Add a splash of vanilla or extra cinnamon for a flavor boost.
