Description

Crispy, Creamy Chicken Cordon Bleu features tender chicken breasts stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese, breaded to a golden crisp, and served with a rich, creamy Dijon sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 16 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 lb (225 g) ham, thinly sliced
  • Peanut oil or vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (125 g)
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups panko bread crumbs (100 g)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk (480 mL)
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard (60 g)
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese (100 g)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare chicken breasts by pounding them to even thickness. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Place 2 slices of Swiss cheese and a few slices of ham on each chicken breast, then fold or roll to enclose the filling securely.
  4. Dredge each stuffed chicken breast in flour, dip into beaten eggs, and coat with panko bread crumbs.
  5. Fry chicken in hot oil until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  6. For the creamy Dijon sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Whisk in flour and cook 1-2 minutes until lightly golden. Gradually whisk in milk, then stir in Dijon mustard and parmesan cheese.
  8. Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Serve fried chicken topped with creamy Dijon sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure chicken is securely rolled to prevent filling from leaking during frying.
  • Can bake instead of frying for a lighter version (375°F for 25-30 minutes).
  • Use freshly grated parmesan for best flavor.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
