Description

Crispy Cajun Shrimp Cups are a flavorful appetizer featuring shrimp marinated in a zesty Creole-inspired sauce, baked in delicate phyllo shells, and topped with a creamy, cheesy, and slightly tangy topping with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Perfect for parties or gatherings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce (like Tony’s Pepper Sauce)
  • 4 teaspoons Tony’s Original Creole Seasoning
  • 1 pound shrimp, cleaned and deveined
  • 1/2 cup Tony’s Creole-Style Seafood 30-Minute Marinade
  • 4 green onions, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Tony’s Original Creole Seasoning, divided
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3/4 cup Italian cheese blend, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons capers
  • 3 boxes phyllo shells (45 total shells)
  • 1-2 tablespoons sesame seeds (white, black, or combination)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven according to phyllo shell package instructions.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix 1 cup mayonnaise, spicy brown mustard, minced garlic, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and 4 teaspoons Creole seasoning to create the shrimp marinade.
  3. Add cleaned shrimp to the marinade and let sit for 20-30 minutes.
  4. While shrimp marinates, prepare the creamy topping by mixing 1/2 cup mayonnaise, softened cream cheese, 1 tablespoon Creole seasoning (divided), dried parsley, minced garlic, shredded Italian cheese blend, chopped green onions, and capers in a bowl.
  5. Arrange phyllo shells on a baking sheet.
  6. Place marinated shrimp into phyllo shells (1 shrimp per shell or chopped, depending on size).
  7. Top each shell with a spoonful of the creamy topping mixture.
  8. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  9. Bake according to phyllo shell instructions until shrimp is cooked and topping is slightly golden.
  10. Remove from oven and serve warm as an appetizer.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of hot sauce to suit your preferred spice level.
  • Ensure shrimp is not overcooked to keep it tender and juicy.
  • Phyllo shells can be prepared ahead of time; assemble just before baking.
  • Use a mix of black and white sesame seeds for visual appeal.
  • These cups pair well with a light citrusy cocktail or sparkling water.
