Description

Crispitos are crispy, golden-fried tortillas filled with seasoned ground beef, onions, garlic, and Cheddar cheese. Optional salsa con queso adds extra flavor, making them a perfect appetizer or snack for parties.


Ingredients

  • 1 quart vegetable oil, divided, for frying
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 10 flour tortillas
  • 1/4 cup salsa con queso, divided, or to taste (optional)
  • 2 cups grated Cheddar cheese
  • Toothpicks

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; cook until softened.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning according to package instructions and remove from heat.
  4. Lay out flour tortillas and spoon beef mixture onto each tortilla. Top with grated Cheddar cheese and a little salsa con queso if desired.
  5. Roll tortillas tightly and secure with toothpicks.
  6. In a deep skillet or fryer, heat remaining vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the rolled tortillas in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve warm with remaining salsa con queso for dipping.

Notes

  • Use fresh cheese for the best melting and flavor.
  • Ensure oil is hot enough to prevent soggy crispitos.
  • Can be made ahead and baked instead of fried for a lighter version.
  • Remove toothpicks before serving.
