Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

For the Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • In a small bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and melted butter. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the mixture and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
    • In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and eggs.
    • Stir until a dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Prepare the Filling:
    • In a medium bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  • Assemble the Rolls:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
    • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a 16×24-inch rectangle.
    • Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
    • Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
    • Slice the roll into 12 equal pieces and place them in the prepared baking dish.
    • Cover the dish and let the rolls rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Bake the Rolls:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown.
  • Prepare the Frosting:
    • While the rolls are baking, beat together the softened butter and cream cheese until smooth.
    • Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until the frosting is creamy and fluffy.
  • Frost and Serve:
    • Once the rolls are baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool for about 10 minutes.
    • Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm rolls.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a teaspoon of ground nutmeg to the filling.
  • Ensure all dairy ingredients are at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • These cinnamon rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
