Instructions
- Preheat waffle iron and lightly coat with vegetable spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, combine eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and buttermilk. Mix until smooth.
- Gradually fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
- Pour batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions until waffles are set and slightly crisp.
- In a medium bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Serve waffles warm topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.
