Description

These crispy and flavorful Chinese takeout-style wings are marinated with soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and aromatic spices, then deep-fried to golden perfection. Perfect for game day or a quick dinner idea!


Ingredients

  • 10 whole chicken wings
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch, divided
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Marinate the Wings: In a large bowl, mix soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, egg, garlic powder, sugar, pepper, and salt. Add 2 tbsp of cornstarch and flour, mixing well until the wings are evenly coated.
  • Rest the Wings: Cover and let the wings sit at room temperature for about 2 hours.
  • Prepare for Frying: Just before frying, add the remaining 1 tbsp of cornstarch to the wings and toss to coat.
  • Heat the Oil: Preheat the frying oil to 375°F (190°C).
  • Fry the Wings: Fry in batches of 3-4 wings, cooking until golden brown and crispy, about 10-12 minutes.
  • Season and Serve: Sprinkle with additional salt while hot and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-fry the wings by frying for 8 minutes, resting for 5 minutes, then frying for another 4 minutes.
  • Serve with a side of sweet chili sauce or soy-based dipping sauce for added flavor.
