Description

Chili Cheese Fries are a hearty and indulgent dish featuring crispy russet fries smothered in a rich, cheesy chili made with seasoned ground beef, diced tomatoes, and a blend of spices. Topped with melted sharp cheddar, this comfort food favorite is perfect for game day or family dinners.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 russet potatoes
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 3 teaspoons Tony’s Original Creole Seasoning
  • 1 can condensed cheese soup
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons Tony’s Original Creole Seasoning
  • 1 sweet onion, diced
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 2 cans petite diced tomatoes
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 box Tony’s Original Chili Seasoning Mix (or mild if preferred)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut russet potatoes into fries. Rinse and pat dry.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Fry the potatoes in batches until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels and season with 3 teaspoons Creole seasoning.
  4. In a saucepan, combine condensed cheese soup, whole milk, and 2 teaspoons Creole seasoning. Heat over medium, stirring until smooth. Set aside.
  5. In a large skillet, sauté diced onion until translucent.
  6. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  7. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, chili seasoning mix, and beef broth. Simmer over medium heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until chili thickens.
  8. Arrange fries on a serving platter. Pour cheese sauce over fries, then spoon chili on top.
  9. Sprinkle shredded sharp cheddar cheese over the chili while hot, allowing it to melt.
  10. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-fry the fries: fry once at a lower temperature, then again at a higher temperature.
  • Adjust the chili seasoning mix for desired spice level.
  • Ground beef can be substituted with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Garnish with sliced jalapeños or chopped green onions for added flavor.
  • Serve immediately to prevent fries from becoming soggy under the chili.
