Description

These Chicken Wontons in Spicy Chili Sauce are a quick and flavorful appetizer or meal. Tender chicken-filled wontons are cooked in a savory mushroom and garlic base, then bathed in a spicy, tangy sauce and topped with green onions and sesame seeds.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Chicken Wontons with Spicy Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil, divided
  • 14 ounces shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1 12-ounce bag frozen chicken wontons
  • 1-2 cups chicken broth (adjust for desired soupiness)
  • 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1-2 tablespoons chili crisp

Toppings:

  • Green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add sliced mushrooms and sauté until soft, about 4–5 minutes.
  2. Add grated garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Push mushrooms to the side and add remaining sesame oil. Cook frozen wontons according to package instructions, usually 5–7 minutes, until heated through and slightly golden.
  4. Add chicken broth, teriyaki sauce, and chili crisp to the pan. Simmer for 2–3 minutes, stirring to coat wontons and mushrooms in the sauce.
  5. Adjust seasoning and spice level as desired.
  6. Serve in bowls, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Use mini chicken cilantro wontons for a flavorful bite-sized option.
  • Adjust chili crisp quantity to control spiciness.
  • This dish can be served as a soup or a saucy appetizer depending on the amount of broth used.
