Description

Butter burgers are a Midwestern classic featuring juicy beef patties cooked with rich, melting butter for extra flavor and tenderness. Served on a toasted bun with your favorite toppings, these indulgent burgers are comfort food at its best.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (divided)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 4 burger buns, toasted
  • Toppings of choice: cheese slices, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, condiments

Instructions

  1. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently form into patties. Avoid overworking the meat.
  2. Season both sides of the patties with salt and black pepper.
  3. In a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat, add 2 tablespoons of butter and let it melt and sizzle.
  4. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, depending on desired doneness.
  5. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of butter (about 1/2 tablespoon) on each patty to melt into the meat.
  6. If adding cheese, place it on top of the patties now and cover briefly to melt.
  7. Toast burger buns lightly in the remaining butter for extra flavor.
  8. Assemble the burgers with toppings of choice and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use an 80/20 beef blend for the juiciest burgers.
  • Don’t press down on the patties while cooking—this releases juices.
  • Add garlic or herb butter for extra flavor.
  • Butter-toasted buns enhance the richness of the burger.
