Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (divided)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 4 burger buns, toasted
- Toppings of choice: cheese slices, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, condiments
Instructions
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently form into patties. Avoid overworking the meat.
- Season both sides of the patties with salt and black pepper.
- In a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat, add 2 tablespoons of butter and let it melt and sizzle.
- Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, depending on desired doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of butter (about 1/2 tablespoon) on each patty to melt into the meat.
- If adding cheese, place it on top of the patties now and cover briefly to melt.
- Toast burger buns lightly in the remaining butter for extra flavor.
- Assemble the burgers with toppings of choice and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use an 80/20 beef blend for the juiciest burgers.
- Don’t press down on the patties while cooking—this releases juices.
- Add garlic or herb butter for extra flavor.
- Butter-toasted buns enhance the richness of the burger.
