Scale
- 1.5 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 0.75 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 cup warm water
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 0.25 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh green onions, finely sliced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine all purpose flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Add warm water and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a bowl, cover, and let rise for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Divide dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and tie into a knot.
- Place knots on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until lightly golden brown.
- While knots bake, melt unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking until butter turns golden brown and smells nutty.
- Remove butter from heat and stir in minced garlic.
- Brush warm knots generously with the brown butter mixture and sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese and sliced green onions before serving.
Notes
- Use warm, not hot, water to properly activate the yeast.
- Do not overbake to keep the knots soft and fluffy.
- Brown the butter carefully to avoid burning.
- Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for best texture.
