Description

Savory breakfast bars made with flaky puff pastry, loaded with sausage, bacon, hash browns, and melty cheese. Perfect for brunch or grab-and-go mornings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 puff pastry sheets
  • 8 oz ground sausage
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 1/2 cup frozen shredded hash browns
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 4 slices cheese (Havarti or cheddar)
  • 4-6 oz bacon
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the bacon until crisp, then chop into small pieces. Set aside.
  3. In a skillet, cook the ground sausage over medium heat until fully cooked. Remove excess grease.
  4. In a bowl, mix the cooked sausage, chopped bacon, hash browns, flour, milk, and pepper until well combined.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Layer cheese slices on one sheet of puff pastry, then spread the sausage and hash brown mixture evenly over the top. Sprinkle shredded cheddar on top.
  7. Cover with the second puff pastry sheet and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and heavy cream, then brush over the top of the pastry for a golden finish.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before cutting into bars and serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare the filling a day ahead and assemble just before baking.
  • Substitute your favorite cheeses for variation.
  • Use pre-cooked breakfast sausage for a quicker preparation.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven for best texture.
