Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • 2 cups frozen French fries
  • 4 sandwich buns
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • Lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles (optional)
  • Cooking oil for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:
    • Slice chicken breasts into fillets or tender-sized pieces.
    • In a bowl, mix salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
    • Add the chicken to the bowl with buttermilk and marinate for 15 minutes.
  • Coat the Chicken:
    • Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with a whisked egg, and one with breadcrumbs.
    • Dip each chicken piece into the flour, then the egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  • Fry the Chicken:
    • Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry the chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
    • Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Cook the Fries:
    • Bake or fry the French fries according to package instructions.
  • Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and hot sauce to make a sauce.
    • Spread sauce on the sandwich buns.
    • Add lettuce, tomato, pickles (if using), crispy chicken, and a handful of fries.
    • Top with the bun and serve immediately!

Notes

  • Swap out regular fries for sweet potato fries for a twist!
  • Use an air fryer for a healthier version of both chicken and fries.
  • Add melted cheese for an extra indulgent sandwich.
