Description

These homemade chicken apple sausage patties are an easy and healthy option for any meal of the day. With ground chicken, diced apples, and fresh rosemary, they are packed with flavor and are gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo, and Whole30-approved.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken (93/7 preferred)
  • 1 medium apple, diced (about 1 cup)
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
  • 2โ€“3 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1โ€“2 tablespoons cold water (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, diced apple, diced onion, rosemary, 1 tablespoon olive oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully combined. If the mixture appears dry, add 1โ€“2 tablespoons of cold water, mixing again. Be careful not to overmix.
  2. Form the mixture into 10โ€“12 round patties, each about 2 ounces in size, and place them on a lined pan or plate.
  3. Heat a cast iron or heavy pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the pan.
  4. Once the pan is hot, add a few patties in a single layer, ensuring they donโ€™t touch. You may need to cook them in batches.
  5. Cook for 4โ€“5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 2โ€“3 minutes on the other side. If the patties stick, add more olive oil to the pan.
  6. Remove cooked patties from the pan and place them onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  7. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a crispier exterior, cook the patties in a bit more oil or try finishing them in the oven after searing them in the pan.
  • If the mixture is too dry, a little cold water will help it bind together better without compromising the flavor.
  • These patties can be served as breakfast, lunch, or dinner and pair well with roasted vegetables, salads, or as part of a sandwich.
