- 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess grease.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for at least 15 minutes, or longer for a richer flavor.
- Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked pasta, ricotta cheese, and Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
- Pour half of the meat sauce into the bottom of a 9ร13-inch baking dish.
- Layer the pasta mixture over the sauce.
- Pour the remaining meat sauce over the pasta.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
