Description

Warm, cozy baked oatmeal layered with sweet caramelized apples. It’s tender, lightly spiced, and perfect for a comforting breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Units Scale
    • Caramelized Apples:
    • 4 apples, sliced
    • 4 tbsp butter
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    • 1/4 tsp kosher salt

  • Baked Oatmeal:
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups quick cooking oats
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/3 recipe Caramelized Apples

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Make the caramelized apples: Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cook until the apples soften and the sugar becomes syrupy, about 8–10 minutes. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and brown sugar.
  4. Stir in the oats, baking powder, cinnamon, allspice, and salt.
  5. Mix in the melted butter and fold in about one-third of the caramelized apples.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  7. Spoon the remaining caramelized apples evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the oatmeal is set and lightly golden.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use rolled oats instead of quick oats for a slightly chewier texture.
  • Substitute maple syrup for brown sugar if preferred.
  • Serve with warm milk, yogurt, or a drizzle of maple syrup.
