- Caramelized Apples:
- 4 apples, sliced
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- Baked Oatmeal:
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups quick cooking oats
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 1/3 recipe Caramelized Apples
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Make the caramelized apples: Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cook until the apples soften and the sugar becomes syrupy, about 8–10 minutes. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and brown sugar.
- Stir in the oats, baking powder, cinnamon, allspice, and salt.
- Mix in the melted butter and fold in about one-third of the caramelized apples.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Spoon the remaining caramelized apples evenly over the top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the oatmeal is set and lightly golden.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Use rolled oats instead of quick oats for a slightly chewier texture.
- Substitute maple syrup for brown sugar if preferred.
- Serve with warm milk, yogurt, or a drizzle of maple syrup.
