Description

Austrian Chocolate Cream Cheese Bars feature a tender, buttery crust topped with a creamy chocolate and cream cheese layer, finished with a rich chocolate glaze and toasted nuts for a decadent treat.

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • For the topping:
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
  • For the glaze:
  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts, toasted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Prepare the crust: In a medium bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter until combined. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake crust for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  4. Prepare the topping: In a bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add flour, sugar, and eggs, mixing until well combined. Fold in 6 ounces of chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the cream cheese and chocolate mixture over the pre-baked crust and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until topping is set. Remove from oven and let cool.
  7. Prepare the glaze: Melt 6 ounces chocolate chips and spread over cooled bars. Sprinkle toasted nuts evenly on top of the glaze.
  8. Allow bars to set completely before cutting into squares and serving.
