Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Bread:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 (8-count) can flaky-style biscuits
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, melted
  • 1 red apple, cored and grated or chopped
  • 1 green apple, cored and grated or chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (plus extra for sprinkling)

For the Icing:

ย

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and coat with cooking spray.
  • Mix the Sugar Coating: In a bowl, combine granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Prepare the Biscuits: Separate each biscuit into two thinner rounds, making 16 rounds total.
  • Coat the Biscuits: Dip each biscuit round into melted butter, letting excess drip off. Then coat in the sugar mixture. Place them on a baking sheet.
  • Prepare the Apple Mixture: In a large bowl, mix any remaining butter and sugar mixture with grated apples, brown sugar, and lemon juice.
  • Assemble the Stacks: Spoon the apple mixture evenly onto each biscuit round. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
  • Stack & Arrange: Stack the biscuits in groups of four, creating four stacks. Transfer to the loaf pan, arranging them vertically (gently pressing to fit).
  • Bake: Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy and a thermometer inserted into the center reads 165ยฐF. Let cool on a wire rack.
  • Make the Icing: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl.

ย

  • Drizzle & Serve: Once cooled, remove the loaf from the pan, drizzle with icing, sprinkle with extra walnuts, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Best Apples for Baking: Use Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji for the best flavor.
  • Make it Nut-Free: Skip the walnuts or replace them with rolled oats or pecans.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.

ย

  • Reheat: Warm slices in the microwave for 10-15 seconds before serving.
