    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

    • Salt and black pepper, to taste

ย

  • For the Casserole:

    • 4-5 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced

    • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced

    • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prepare

    • Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC) and grease a 9ร—13-inch baking dish.

  • Make the Hamburger Patties

    • In a bowl, mix ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

    • Form into 6 evenly sized patties.

    • Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown the patties on both sides (they donโ€™t need to be fully cooked). Set aside.

  • Prepare the Gravy

    • In the same skillet, whisk together 1 cup milk and flour until smooth.

    • Slowly add the remaining 1 cup milk, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens into a gravy.

    • Season with salt and pepper, adjusting to taste.

  • Assemble the Casserole

    • Layer half of the potato slices in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

    • Add half of the onion slices on top.

    • Arrange the browned hamburger patties over the onions.

    • Layer the remaining potatoes and onions on top.

  • Bake the Casserole

    • Pour the prepared gravy evenly over the entire dish.

    • Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour.

    • Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

ย

  • Serve & Enjoy!

    • Let the dish rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of paprika or thyme to the gravy.

  • Try swapping cheddar for Monterey Jack or Swiss cheese.

ย

  • Serve with buttered green beans or a side salad for a complete meal.
