Scale
- 1 pound cube steak - 4 large slices
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk, or 1 1/2 cups regular milk plus 1 1/2 tbsp white vinegar
- 1/4 cup hot sauce (optional)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian herbs
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, combine buttermilk and hot sauce (if using). Submerge the cube steaks in the mixture and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to tenderize.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, Italian herbs, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and water to create an egg wash.
- Remove steaks from the buttermilk and dip each slice into the flour mixture, then into the egg wash, and again into the flour mixture for a double coating.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Place the coated steaks in the air fryer basket in a single layer without overlapping. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve immediately with gravy, mashed potatoes, or your favorite sides.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, spray the coated steaks lightly with cooking spray before air frying.
- Ensure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow even cooking.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain crispiness.
